GPS or Global Positioning System is a network of orbiting satellites that send precise position of user in space back to earth. The signals are obtained by AIS 140 GPS Device receivers to navigate the devices and are used to calculate the exact position, time and speed of the vehicle. GPS is more often known for its military uses to keep track of enemies and LOCs and was first developed by the United States for global intelligence. The GPS soon was made freely available to anyone with a GPS receiver. Today from Airlines companies to a taxi driver, everyone uses the GPS tracking system to track vehicles and to follow the best route to reach their destination in shortest possible time.

How Does GPS System Works?

Each of the satellites is in an orbit and allows a receiver to detect at least four of the operational satellites; here receiver could be in a car or in a mobile phone. The satellites send the microwave signals to a receiver where the built-in computer uses these signals to calculate the precise distance from each of the four satellites and then triangulates the exact location on the planet to the nearest few meters based on these distances.

The signals from just three satellites are needed to carry out the calculation of the position on earth based on the distance from three satellites. The signal from the fourth satellite is used to confirm the results of the initial calculation. If the position calculated from distances of 'A-B-C' satellites do not match the calculation based on 'A-B-D' then other combinations are tested until a consistent result is obtained and accuracy can be achieved.
